Hi Laura, reinstalling is never working as long as you are not creating a new profile. Otherwise the settings will be reused. Is there an error shown in the Error Console of Firefox (Firefox button > Web Developer > Error Console)? If not, please follow the instructions at http://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/I_found_a_Firebug_Bug! and let us know, if you could fix the issue.
