gswkaiser, the error count should be shown besides the add-on bar icon as well as the toolbar Start Button. Just make sure Firebug enabled for the website, the Console panel is enabled and the option "Show Error Count" (extensions.firebug.showErrorCount) is set. If you can see the errors inside the Console, but still don't see the error number at the Firebug Start Button, then please report an issue via http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/entry with a test case.
