I had the same issue and I found the cause: if you have AceBug installed along with Firebug 1.10, then you can't edit html. I suppose we'll have this fixed in the new version of AceBug (really wonderfull extension!).
For the time being you may use Firebug Autocompleter<https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firebug-autocompleter/>(not bad as well).
