I would recommend to create a new fresh Firefox profile and install only Firebug into it.
http://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#Installing_in_a_clean_profile This way you can avoid possible conflicts with other extensions. Note that reinstalling Firebug rarely helps since the setting (i.e. possibly broken Firefox profile) is still the same. Does it help?
