Hi Michael, a few (unfortunately quite old) videos can be found at https://getfirebug.com/screencasts. Firebug has too many functions to explain everything in one video, though we plan <http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=4508> to create some short videos explaining specific features of Firebug. For now you can check out the Firebug wiki <https://getfirebug.com/wiki/>, which already explains a lot.
The highlight colors represent the content area (blue), margin (yellow), padding (purple) and border (black) of the hovered element.
