Removing extension and reinstalling usually doesn't help since you are still using the same Firefox profile (which seems to be broken in your case)
Try to create a new profile and install only Firebug into it. See https://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/Install_Firebug_into_a_clean_profile Also it could be a collision with another extension, in such case we would be interested which one it is.
