I assume your problem is related to opening the popup. Can you provide a 
URL, so we can reproduce that?

Firebug just watches the network traffic, it doesn't influence it.

Though maybe the *Persist* 
option<https://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/Net_Panel#Persist>can help you to 
see the request for the image.
