It's working fine for me using Firefox 24.0 + Firebug 1.12.8 on Win8.1. See the screenshot below.

The current ESR version of Firefox is 31.0 and of Firebug 2.0.2. So I suggest you to update your versions first and try it again. If it's still not working, try to install Firebug into a new profile <https://getfirebug.com/wiki/index.php/Install_Firebug_into_a_clean_profile> and see if it's working there.
