Firebug works for websites. While it may display the XUL structures and CSS 
of your extensions, it is not meant to debug other extensions.

That's already the right starting point. After doing that you'll see a new 
point within the Firefox menu under *Developer* called *Browser Toolbox*. 
This toolbox looks pretty much the same as the built-in devtools, but 
allows you inspect and debug the browser UI and code.

For inspecting the browser UI you may also use the tool DOM Inspector 
<https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/dom-inspector-6622/>.
