This might not be realistic, but as the new Firebug 3 will bring many
changes and we might need to keep using the existing features until Mozilla
reaches feature parity with Firebug:

Could it be possible to release the version 3 with a new Id so that both
Firebug 2 and 3 can be installed on the same Firefox and so we can try out
the new version (at the very least it's clear that it improves the quality
of the native developer tools) and we can launch the old version whenever
we need something that it's missing in the new version?

That way it would be much easier for you to get feedback as more people
will be willing to test it knowing that whenever they need it the old
Firebug is one click away.

Thank you for your consideration of this proposal.
