Ah, OK -- didn't realize it only autostarted audio/video, not app sharing.
W.R.T. disabling capabilities, I assume you're talking about Windows
policy editing? I'm more a UNIX guy than NT, but I was able to use
policyedit to unlimit things that were diabled in various SW on my
test box. The same could be done by savvy users for NetMeeting, right?

Not sure I understand the question. These days, customers I support
pretty much demand (and I persuade them if they don't yet) strong
auth. For interactive access, sites I support use SSH, SecureID
tokens (dialin, router access), SSL web access, client browser
certificates, etc. For apps with old fashioned reusable cleartext
passwords, we generally set up SSH tunnels or other VPNish solutions
to run the apps over. I can't think of any apps my customers use which
employ cleartext reusable passwords across the WAN.

You get a catch-22 situation where each side can initiate a
conversation, but the other side won't answer. Ran into this before
and it's pretty silly :-)
