What I generally do for basic logging is use a packet sniffer and filter
out the things that I'm not interested in. If you are using NT, you
might try out the NetworkMonitor app that comes with SMS. The older
version of SMS had it, so if you have that around, use it. Otherwise,
you probably know that a non-promiscuous version of NetworkMontitor is
included as part of the NT4 OS. If you are only looking at traffic
that's hitting that particular machine, this should serve your needs.
There are also shareware/3rd party products that can do this with a bit
less overhead: EtherBoy & PacketBoy from NDG Software, and LanTrace from
Intellimax Systems.
