  The way I hear it, the major differences between MS-DNS and BIND are:

1. MS hacked in support for WINS/DHCP.

2. MS broke other functionality in the process, in ways that have never been 
spelled out in my hearing.

  If they didn't start from a version of BIND, then that puts a different 
spin on #2.  If it is true that bugs from old BIND versions are present in MS-
DNS, then it is probable that they started from a BIND source.
