We will always need firewalls, because I can't "fix" all the 13,000
machines inside my firewall, which are administered by whoever
is sitting in from of them at the moment.  I can "fix" the 50 or so
that I intentionally expose to the Internet for a chosen set of
services.

I don't believe there is any long-term final solution for those 13,000
machines, if they need access to the Internet.  Like most
FW admins, I'm walking the line between making them secure
and letting them serve the purpose they were acquired for.
