There's several reasons by companies use FreeBSD for firewalls:

        - FreeBSD is easy to strip-down and modify
        - It's actually faster than Linux when it comes to networking.
When FreeBSD receives a packet, it only does 1 memcpy()
instead of 3 to move the packet from one interface to
                another.
        - The source is better controlled (I know, that's a matter of opinion)
but from my experience, FreeBSD builds have always been more stable.
        - FreeBSD remains a network OS, and Linux is now becoming more of a
general OS, which has to be modified for performance.
