After having exposure to the PIX, Raptor, Checkpoint, and Gauntlet - I can say
that the PIX is much less feature-rich than the other firewalls (less software
intensive). The PIX runs a version of IOS that includes little more
functionality than a router does. To it's credit though, the PIX is more
economical - good for meeting very basic needs. However, more expensive and
feature-rich firewalls such as Checkpoint's Firewall-1, Axent's Raptor
firewall, and gauntlet provide more functionality such as VPN clients, URL
filtering, Virus Scanning, Content Vectoring, authentication and encryption,
proxies, etc.
