I'll tell you up front that my company resells both Axent and ISS
products.
Axent ITA is a host based IDS. It watches logs on the system and
is completely configurable as far as what files it watches and what
it watches for. You can configure it to watch for any regular expression.
RealSecure startted out as a network IDS and has recently added
a host based component. Both report to the same console. What
RealSecure Host lacks is support for a large number of systems.
It is currently only available for NT but it can monitor unix
syslog if they are sent to an NT box.
Axent ITA is available for NT, Solaris, SunOS, HPUX, AIX, Novell
and others.
If you have any other questions about either product, feel free to email
me privately.
