An additional plus to this is that while using a 486 you're not tempted
to run all sorts of services on the bastion host, thereby making it more
secure than if you were running it on something bigger(but running every
service you can fit on it).
I've got three 486's at home running linux, and each one cost less than
$25 each. Most expensive thing with them is the dataswitcher ($28), so I
didn't have to get a seperate monitor/keyboard for each.
