Why buy an Ultra-2 when the Ultra-5s are 1/6th that price? It's hard to
beat their 333Mhz SPARC CPU with 2MB cache, 128MB RAM, 3 PCI slots and 9GB
IDE drive. A U-5 will have the same 90Mbps throughput as any other
single-CPU dual ethernet SPARC and most firewalls don't need the fast SCSI
drives, multi-CPUs, or sbus expansion the U-2s offer.
U-5s are also half the price of a Nokia. I'd recommend the Nokia where
there's no Unix admin, however, even with a Nokia black box you need to
apply occasional patches. Worse, you'll still need Checkpoint licenses,
which can be time consuming (weeks).
