Why not get copies of each major IDS product and see which works in your
environment?

All of the current IDS products have good and bad points.  Just like
firewall reviews, most reviews are flawed or look at things other than
functionality.  ID is too early in its lifecycle to have a clear leader,
and all of them will miss things.  Firewall reviews still focus on GUIs
more than protection, I can't see IDS reviews being better.

What traffic hits your network and/or is generated on your network will
affect how effective IDS is for you.  Therefore, it's probably in your
best interest to actually try the major contenders and see what works
best.
