SCC Fireall uses type enforcement and a modified Unix. It is an
application layer type firewall that can perform many type of security for
you. It uses Proxies and ACL to open ports for traffice. UOnce these
ports are open you can use the net groups to only allow certain ip or
subnets to come in or out of the base. You also have the option on which
side of the fireall the ports are active (Internal side or External Side
or both). SCC Firewall also has IP filtering in case you need straight
though network connection without security. I have found that this
firewall (Unix version) is very good and stable to some extent. It relies
on a good configured DNS if you are going to make the firwall secondarys.
HOwever, I do recommend that you use a min config of a PII 400Mhz with 256
Megs Ram and 9 Gig drive.

Version 4.1 is CD ROM based and the cobra GUI interface makes
configuration and adding ports etc very user friendly. The price I
believe ranges from 15K to 20K and up depened on the extra fetures you
wish to buy.

No I am not a sales rep or anything like that :-) I just use SCC firewall
on a daily bases. It is also the DOD standard.
