Hello I need to clerify some doubts related to MS Proxy.
These days i m evaluating MS Proxy server......most of the things r goin on
fine......the setup is like this
WIN98 PC-(1)-------------(2)-WIN NT
(MSProxy)-(3)------------(4)-Router-(5)------- Public n/w (WWW, FTP Server,
Telnet Server)
? no. 1-> If i configure my browser on WIN98 m/c to use MSProxy with NT
basic authentication ...it works well using Web proxy...
without the need to logon to domain.
Say I stop Web proxy and wish to use WinSock Proxy only for
all protocols(http,ftp,telnet etc)...I installed MS Client from
the share "mspclnt".....on a WIN98 m/c ...and when i tried to
access ..it didn't work.....my WIN98 m/c is not logged into
the domain in which MSProxy exists......even if i log into
domain it didn't work......my ? is why it is so.....
Then in Win Sock properties i enabled access control option and
assigned access permission to domain users and then
logged again and found the things to be working.......Is it
necessary to enable access control in WinSock ??? how can
i allow anonymous access??? as can be done in WebProxy .
? no. 2-> Then I tried to use IP Filtering feature....i enabled IP filtering
with dynamic filtering box also selected....
Before this subnets at two interface of MS Proxy were able to
ping each other...i.e. from interface 1 i was able to
ping interface 2,3 & 4 and vice versa.But after enabling IP
Filtering I was not able to ping interface 4 but was able to ping
interface2& 3 from interface 1 And also I was not able to ping
interface 2 from interface 4 though proper routing in router etc
were configured as both sides were able to ping before enabling
IP filtering. The default exceptions were selected in the
WinSock IP filtering security box. No rule was added. From
exceptions it seems it should allow ICMP packets to pass.
But this is not happening and also Telnet on my MSProxy m/c
stopped working i.e i was not even able to telent router
though it is directly connected on same subnet as router and
I m able to ping the router too.
? no.3-> How I specify that which interface is external and which one
internal ?? Where do i configure this??????
? no. 4-> Is there any other way to install MS Client offline....say i want
to have a preconfigured MS Client with me and I just
don't wish to connect to MS Proxy share to install MS Client on
m/c.s????
? no. 5-> Is it necessary for the MSProxy Client to be logged on to domain
to use WinSock Proxy service.
