Although I haven't used the NT version of the software I can tell you that I
am less than impressed with their BSD variant.

The BSD version is basically just a hardened version of BSD with a
moderately decent GUI for managing the Firewall. It has poor logging
capabilities, it's alert mechanisms love to give out false positives, no
ability to unify rule bases in a real time manner, and it's upgrade path has
been extremely arduous. We have actually decided to move away from the
product.

I realize that Sidewinder is considered one of the more secure boxes out
there but for what it does it costs a lot of money. I would sooner just
build my own BSD firewall and put some proxies behind it. It would cost a
heck of a lot less and provide nearly the same level of security.

Subject: Secure Computing Firewall for NT

We are looking at a number of firewalls for NT. Secure Computing
Firewallfor NT was highly recommended to us. It is the first time that I
have heard about this product. I am aware of Checkpoint Firewall-1, (50% of
market share) Axent Raptor (20%?), NAI Gaunlet, BorderWare, Border Manager.
Any comments/suggestions about the product, its technical support,
licensing, etc. are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
