This seems to work for me:
NIC1 connected to cisco router (x.y.z.1):
IP: x.y.z.2
MASK: 255.255.255.0
gateway: x.y.z.1
NIC2 connected to other lan segment (X.Y.X.0/24)
ip: X.Y.X.1
MASK: 255.255.255.0
gateway: x.y.z.2
enable IP forwarding and
make sure the cisco router has a route for
X.Y.X.0/24 via x.y.z.2
Lastly, check if RIP for internet protocol is listed
under services under the network tab. You should not need that,
but you may want to config it this way. NT is like voodoo sometimes.
