I get about 3 attempts a day. Most network admins are very attentive to security
issues. If you were to email a formal complaint to the network admin of the system
from which the attack originated AND copy the message to their nearest upstream
neighbor. Im pretty sure they will take care of the problem. Be sure to include
evidence of the attack (like your system log file, that denotes the time, also include
time zone).

If you do not know how to find out who they are or their nearest upstream neighbor is,
you need to use a traceroute program (I use Cyberkit, it's awesome). Then you use the
follwoing sites to get their phone numbers/ Email addresses:

http://www.arin.net/whois/arinwhois.html
http://www.networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

good luck!

p.s. if that doesnt work, you can filter their whole IP block on your outside router.
If you think your system may have been compromised, you can always get a subpeona, and
drag them (and yourself) into court.
