It depends upon preference.  I have application proxy software running on an
Ultra60, dual processor, OS Solaris 2.6 and it works fine.  Some would
prefer FW-1, also a good product.  Installation is easy, configuring the
software is another thing.  First and foremost before the firewall software
is installed is gettining rid of unecessary services.  Search the web or
better yet go to www.cert.org, lots of good stuff there plus links to other
security sites.  I'm sure there are other things that I forgot to mention
but that's what the list is for.
