The Bottom Line is this. YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS SCANNING ANYONE'S
MACHINE!!!!! unless it is requested by the owner/company

its that simple folks the bullshit "it causes no harm" is moronic one
nmap scan can produce 8000 email alerts seems to me that is a denial of
service. why because a) you had no business to scan my machines b) you
were not asked to scan my machines and c) your actions spurred off another
action. so with this secondary and "unknown" action you have committed a
denial of service have a nice day!

We support ZERO Tolerance to any type of unauthorized network access. and
for those of you that whine about not having the time to track these down
maybe you should justify the business need and hire a security admin. to
date for mere scanning I have axed over 30 DSL accounts and 20 cable
accounts and you know what I don't feel bad at all.

so for those of you tired of this rant I bid the farewell

What about got a new scanner and just wanted to try it out, or just wanted
to see how many machines out there HAD BO on it? maybe a research project
to
see what turned up on a scan?

I think scanning is harmless enough that any defensive measures you want to
take as a response are ok, but I don't think you should be contacting
someone's ISP and causing them grief, when they caused you none.

As soon as something intrusive is done by the scanner/attacker then you
nail
them all the way, it's all or none here, but IMHO a scan counts as none.
