Yes, three of the major firewall software vendors support gigabit
ethernet. More of the problem is the underlying operating system you plan
to install the firewall software on. Both Solaris 2.6 and Solaris 7
require a couple of hardware patches for the gigabit ethernet cards to be
recognized by the operating system.

Axent Raptor 6.02 for Solaris support Gigabit ethernet. Check with their
technical support for exact details.
NAI Gauntlet E-ppliance Webshield 300 on the Sun Netra T1 platform claims
to support Gigabet Ethernet.
Checkpoint Firewall 4.1 for Solaris also claims the same, but the FW-1
documentation has not been updated to back their statement up.

I think the other problem you may have is configuring the devices that
will be hanging off the 4 different network segments you are planning to
deploy. Some of the Microsoft based applications may not understand the
netmask and subnet configurations you may require to get everything to
communicate/interoperate with each other.

One Firewall Wizard once told me all security designs should adhere to the
KISS methodology.. :)

Does anyone have experience with firewalls that support Gigabit? I
need a firewall that will support up to 4 network segments, with at
least 1 gigabit segment. I either get a straight "NO" or an "in the
near future" response from our favorite vendors. Any help is
appreciated. Thanks.
