Really very odd.
I recommend you the use of a Operative System with authentication capacity. Like 
Windows NT Workstation. Then download from www.ntobjetives.com forensic tools and 
NTLast in order to detect the next time when you live very odd situations.

BTW, test Tripwire too. www.tripwiresercurity.com
