Automotive Network eXchange. It's a project by the US Automotive industry
to link suppliers and manufacturers on a private network. Because of
interoperability of IPSec devices, it's normally hearalded as the VPN
wonder of the Universe, and pointed to as a successful proof that VPNs
work. The fact that it runs on a private network seems to have escaped
half the people touting its success. The fact that it isn't the same as
wide-open VPN access between employees and infrastructure seems to have
escaped most of the other half.
