Just for everyones interest--if anyone really cares. I got some other
replies to the stability of CIPE.

Here are some quotes:

Well lets see, I have used it connect our corporate infrastructure
which consists of sites in DE, AL,TX, VA and NC. Running on various
links anywhere from 144k IDSL line to 512k frame-replay, the only
down time we have had is with the ISP in TX (pretty stupid people)
we run all types of apps NT logons, WINS, Web apps, and Email.

-------

I've been using CIPE more or less continuously for the last 4 years
or so, since about version 0.5.4, I think. It is fair to say that It
Just Plain Works.

Configure maxerr of -1 in /etc/cipe/options, so that CIPE ignores
transient problems with your ISP. Your ISP will fail infinitely more
often than CIPE...because CIPE won't ever fail at all.

Also, configure cttl to something like 64, if you like to traceroute
through CIPE tunnels.

---------

We use it all the time between networks - 4 tunnels. It works
well for us.
