Do not fight back. It is a loose-loose situation. More often then not the host used to
attack your system is compromised, and by attacking them you are compounding the
damage and possibly setting yourself and/or your company up for legal troubles.
Sorry for the cliche's but the best offense is a good defense. Adhere to current
secure network architecture techniques and stay abreast of 0day exploits and
prevention methods by surfing SANS, CERT, Packetstorm and other sites (theres your
plug Ken!) and sleep well at night knowing that you've done your best.
Then go punch the clown, order pizza, and get a tattoo

Definitely, yes!! But is it smart? It is my philosophy to
deter intrusions. This is not done by dueling with them or
threatening them. Just make it more trouble than its worth
and move on.
