I disagree. I used a Firebox for a year, then upgraded to a Firebox II. I
believe the subscription to LiveSecurity (a BackWeb based automatic update
system) cost around $1500, although it may have gone up. Since the basic
firewall is fairly inexpensive, with the LiveSecurity subscription you still
have an economic, effective firewall system.
I use a Cisco PIX now, due to standardization from my mother-company, but
I've found that there are several features that the Firebox II had that I
don't have with the PIX, or at least not easily. The Firebox does email
attachment filtering, great logging, GUI traffic and usage tools that are
simple to use, etc. It made my job quite easy, and was also not too
difficult to configure. There is also a great mailing list of users that are
extremely helpful when it comes to working out the kinks.
So, I put in my vote for it being a well-built firewall appliance that's
quite useful and very competitive in price.

Just hope you never need support or an upgrade. They won't even
talk to you uless you shell out around $3k a year for the support
subscription. The subscriptions is required for upgrades as well.

Just ran across (not over) a FireBox II, would anyone care to comment on its
usefulness?
