I was messing with AOL Messenger today. It uses port 5190 by default but
has a feature of trying a random high port if that doesn't work. On my
network, there is no access to the Internet on any ports unless explicitly
allowed. If you are not setup this way your best bet is to block access to
login.oscar.aol.com.

ICQ and the like is for others....

Subject: Using ACLs to block instant messengers

Anybody use ACLs at the Internet access router to block instant
messenger applications like AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, etc...?
Can someone point me to a URL which describes which ports these apps use
and/or has anyone sniffed these apps to determine which ports they use
and which would need to be blocked to prevent access to them?

TIA
