Allyn,

ICSA has a firewall buyers guide that may help: http://www.icsa.net/html/communities/firewalls/buyers_guide/index.shtml

The load level you are talking about isn't that high.  I've seen Firewall-1 running on a modest HP workstation handling well over 5,000 connections with good performance and  I've seen a Cisco PIX front-ending a fairly large e-commerce site with much high loads than that.  It really depends on what your are trying to do security wise, what features you require to implement your policy and how much money you have to spend.

So I have searched the web....  I've searched the list archives...
I've read books...  I'm looking for a comparison of the different
firewall solutions out there.  We need it to handle up to 3000
students at a time.  Does anybody know of any resources out there?
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
