Hi  folks,

I am learning firewall stuff. Please bear with me
Our company presently uses only a Cisco router 2524 to do packet
filtering connected to the Internet (external network)) and our
pproduction and development servers (internal network) on the other end.

Have been told to install Raptor 6.5 with VPN. Now I need some basic
clarifications regarding physical connections of the 2 NIC cards on the
firewall hardware.

Present  layout
Internet------>router------>switch--------other servers

Proposed Layout
Interne-->router--->firewall(first NIC)/Second NIC -----switch
-----other servers

Basically want to find out if routerer gets connected to one of the NIC
cards. DO I use RJ45 or some special crossover cable. And can the other
NIC go to the switch which has my other servers connected or should it
be connected to a hub seperate from other servers. I am geting a little

confused with this whole thing and was asked to check if my switch
supports segmentation. Another thing I need help on is to understand if

I can let my router do NAT or does Firewalleed to do NAT.Any inputs on
pros and cons will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much
Preethi
