Out of curiosity... Why would one wish to block shockwave or flash in the
first place? Are there any inherent dangers that I am aware of, other than
a loss of productivity for day surfers? In my humble opinion that is an HR
issue, not a problem for the sysadmin to solve. Are there risks that I am
unaware of? I am especially curious, as I manage the Web and Networking
Development Division of a small/medium company, and have both macromedia
developers and info-sec technicians at my disposal.
For a solution... If you use a content filtering router or have ad blocking
software in place on the DMZ... You could simply remove the ".swf" or any
other applicable file extension. They are all implemented in the web pages
as an applet. This would disable them.
Very Respectfully,
Michael E. Cummins

Hi,
Question for all you gurus...how does one block shockwave without
disabling
java? I think it runs through port 80. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
