Simon,

I'm looking at running the FW-1 scenario, and was wondering if the failover
actually takes 30 seconds? Is this a complexity problem, or is 30 seconds
the best case scenario for failover? Is there any problems with maintaining
connections during the failover process? Anyone else that has this setup
care to comment?

It depends on the hardware...

Nokia have FW-1 running on their IP330 and IP440 as a High Availability
bundle. This option will let you run both firewalls concurrently for fault
tolerance AND load balancing!

the High availability module that you can get from Checkpoint will only let
you run the 2 firewalls in a Active/Passive setting, where if one dies, the
other will take over after 30 seconds or so.

You can however go with other alternatives such as Stonebeat which will let
you do much the same as Nokia.

We are going with the Nokia IP440HA bundle, as it comes with 2 IP440's
running checkpoint FW-1.

Hi All,

Any pointers on how to setup redundant firewall with FW-1 so if one fails
other one should take over.
i am not plannig for a backup kind of firewall, i want both the firewalls
to be live on the network.

Thanks

Vijay
