Token vs. Certificates

OK guys and girls. Tokens like RSA Secure ID or Certificate servers. Which
is best. I feel like tokens are but that's why I am looking at you
guys/girls. Client wants to have secure authentication into the network from
the internet. Client had decided on Tokens until the web guru brought up
using a certificate server...and it's free.

Does anyone know which is better?
