The only thing I know about this product is that it uses NAT which
does not make it a firewall.

I've used mine for a while not and it works very well...throughput is better
than a software based solution like WinroutePro. There are some catches
though...the NAT is uses is NOT perfect...for example duplicate connections
to the same server often wont work (quake 3 for example), the servers sees
it as multiple connections from the same machine, while the same setup DOES
work with winroute...so the NAT implementation is not the best but most just
web and stuff it works wonderfully right out of the box. Configuration is
via a web interface, I have not messed with the latest BETA firmware, but
you can forward port ranges and set one IP as a 'DMZ machine', which means
it's wide open...I have NOT run abusive diagnostics against it (like frag
attacks and SYN floods) so I don't know how it does there

won't they just give you another one? while I have not actually watched the
time remaining and compared it, I have never experienced any downtime with
mine, in months, and it seems unlikely that every time we hit this
'discrepency window' that I would happen to not be useing the
connection...esp considering that if what you say were true , the longer the
lease the longer the downtime window...and I haven't seen one...what did the
supervisor say?
For me, the linksys has worked very well as long as your needs are
simple...if you just want to share the link so everyone in the house can
surf it works great, for heavy games and stuff there might be better options
for a little more money, or for no money if you have the skills and a spare
machine.
