Developing the Firewall Review site:
We would probably want to be able to manipulate the reviews by certain
categories, wouldn't we?
Hardware Implementations, Software Implementations, OS dependant, etc?
We would need someone to write a few paragraphs on the brief advantages and
disadvantages of different types of implementations...
An overall FAQ for Firewalls...
Links to sign up for this list...
I just bought a domain for the site and am setting it up on an IP on one of
my webservers. I'll let you know where it is when it is concrete, I'm
surprised that the domain was available.
I may not have the fastest pipe in the world, but I do have a T3 and two
T1's (different providers), OC3 installation in process (what a long
process)
If I am going to write the database for it, I want it on one of my boxes so
I can develop it without relying on anyone else's administration.
I will design the graphical aspects and the database, but I will need
content contributors. If you think you can assist me in any other way, let
me know. I am pretty sure that this has the potential to get bigger that we
originally imagined.
Give me feedback on what we should track, what we should exclude, and what
you can contribute. Although I think we should avoid advertising, I think
it would be appropriate to have a credits section where people could have
their bylines/companies - don't you?
Awaiting feedback.

I agree with Daniel that this is a great idea, and one that has been
brought up numerous times on this list. When these questions are received,
it would be nice to be able to refer people to a set URL with all the
information they would need.
Daniel mentioned that his server link may not be fast enough. I run the
SolarisGuide.com website, and would gladly host this information. The
server and its connection to the net should be more than adequate. Perhaps
we could have the old "Which FW is best" discussion (holy war?) one more
time on this list, and then compile the information and post it all up on
SolarisGuide.
Or perhaps a Amazon-like reviewing system might work best? Where all the
popular FWs are listed and people could review/rate them. Average ratings
could be developed, and it might (just maybe) turn into a useful resource.
This is just an idea that I wanted to throw out there. If there already is
such a resource (other than the list archives), I apologize for the
duplication in advance. I just wanted to offer my services.
Later,
John
