Exactly where would you expect it to be hidden from? 
 
If it were able to be hidden, don't you think "everyone" would be setting up accounts that way?
 
My test has shown that the username is visible everywhere.  What do you expect it to be hidden from?

Also within NT you should be able to put a $username to hide it...
