Possibly something to do with Generic Security Services, an API that some
application may be trying to use instead of the SSPI API that is built into
W2K.

Subject: Strange Windows 2000 thing ...

I've spotted a couple of Windows 2000 machines here doing DNS lookups for
what appears to be gss.microsoft.com, and they do this every 3601 seconds
(weird, huh?). Only 2 W2K machines here seem to do, the other 6 or so
don't. I can only assume that there is some automatic process checking for
something, but I can't work out what it is - the DNS lookup always fails, so

whatever process is on these machines never attempts to connect to a
remote host. Any ideas?

Dan
