If you haven`t got any obsolete pc-hardware to recycle, 
then I would have a look at the watchguard soho firewalls.
Small, easy to configure, cheap and they have a 4-port hub built in.
Thanks to the dhcp server this really just a question of plug and pray.
And before the flaming starts, i know installing plug`nplay firewalls isn`t
a very safe practice.
But for a home user this should do, at very little cost ( it`s probably
about the same price as trying to find some obsolete pc-hardware to run
freesco/lrp/..) on.
