More likely than a new protocol is that this is really HTTP over a non standard port.
Find out what protocol they are using on this port. If it is HTTP (web) then pass it
though your standard HTTP proxy or treat it as if it were HTTP (with all the same
risks).

Subject: SU/MIT Telnet Gateway

Hi,

I was hoping some of you might be able to help me with a query I have
regarding port 89.
I have had a request to open up this port to allow a selection of users
obtain access to Oracles Technet discussion forums which uses port 89.

Looking on some of the port lists available on the web I've only managed to
discover that this port is the SU/MIT Telnet Gateway.
This is pretty useless and doesnt really help me find out what concerns I
should have about opening up this port.

Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on what this port is all
about and what the pro's and con's will be if I open it up?

Cheers
