Hi! I am fairly new to Linux firewalls and have just successfully got
my first ipchains firewall setup doing inbound and outbound blocking. I
used this "configurator" site to get started with my firewall
http://www.linux-firewall-tools.com/linux/firewall/index.html. I also
purchased the book there and a few others. I seem to be collecting and
reading firewall and security books and web sites of all types these
days. I think I am hooked! :)

That being the case I have some questions. I am doing this as a hobby
on my home system and I use MSN instant messenger sometimes to get and
sent friends that have no clue about FTP. I wonder if there are any
security issues with opening the file transfer ports for that service in
my firewall? Anytime someone sends me a file I have to authorize it so
it should be safe enough as long as I don't let them send me a trojan
right? Could someone here give me a hint on the ipchains rules needed?
I have a rule to allow input on 6891:6900 from anywhere and output on
the same from my local subnet. I have a forwarding rule for all
requests from my local subnet as well. I don't think it is working
however. I am either missing a rule or I have my syntax fouled up. The
script does not error out when run however.

Thanks
