Pure VPN questions are, strictly speaking, off topic for this list. With
that said, however, there are enough people that are interested in the topic
that I've never seen a discussion get canned.
For basic info fire up a search engine. Read the basics and then hit the
list with specific queries or to request opinions. It's a lot easier for us
to give you answers to specific questions than try and dump everything we
know about a topic.
One quick pointer - L2TP also has a use inside IPSec, and MS is doing a lot
of work to advance that. You probably want to check that out as well.
