Eliyah,

     I would recommend that you read "DNS and BIND" by O'Reilly.  I believe
chapter 12 talks about nslookup.  This would give you a good understanding
of DNS as well as nslookup.  More than likely your firewall does allow DNS
through.  Ask your firewall administrator.  That person should know for
sure.
