As you have a E450 you have 6 PCI busses on that system. Make sure each
of the Gig cards
has its own PCI bus so you do not run into PCI bus saturation. A single
PCI bus is just fast enough to chew the in/output of one single Gig
card.
More processors won't help except if you run
1) a high load on protocols with enabled security servers
2) use lots of VPN - but here VPN accelerator cards may be a
cheaper option
You can optimize speed sacrificing security with each of the following
steps:
* using plain HTTP without resources (i.e. security servers)
* enabling fast-mode (see http://www.phoneboy.com/faq/0334.html)
