my thoughts,

dns: both ways, if it's hosting a public domain

smtp: "out" to send mail to other smtp servers, "in" to receive mail from other smtp servers.  my guess is that you just need to send from your web server, but if you need to store and forward for a domain you'll need inbound as well.

hope that helps.Byron

Subject: Configuring a firewall

I was just wondering ..

If you have a DNS Server and a WEb server (using SMTP)

Which port do you have to leave open on your firewall ???

dns(53) both was or just going out ???
smtp (25) both ways or just going out ??

Thanks
Mark
